to me march 28th was a lucky day. it was
on that particular evening that i found myself at central stage, in the
spotlight. winning the “21st century·ericsson cup” seventh national english
speaking competition is a memory that i shall treasure and one that will surely
stay.
more important than winning the cup is the
friendship that has been established and developed among the contestants, and
the chance to communicate offstage in addition to competing onstage. also the
competition helps boost public speaking in china, a skill hitherto undervalued.
for me, though, the competition is a more
personal experience. habitually shy, i had been reluctant to take part in any
such activities. encouraged by my friends, however, i made a last-minute
decision to give it a try. in the course of preparation i somehow rediscovered
myself, a truer me.
i found that, after all, i like
communicating with other people; that exchanging views can be so much fun—and
so much rewarding, both emotionally and intellectually; that public speaking is
most effective when you are least guarded; and that it is essential to success
in every walk of life.
at a more practical level, i realized
knowing what you are going to say and how you are going to say it are equally
important. to take the original ideas out of your head and transplant them, so
to speak, to that of others, you need to have an organized mind. this ability
improves with training.
yet there should not be any loss or
addition or distortion in the process. those ideas that finally find their
waysintosanother head need to be recognizably yours. language is a means to
transmit information, not a means to obstruct communication. it should be lucid
to be penetrating.
in china, certain public speaking skills
have been unduly emphasized. will it really help, we are compelled to ask, to
bang at the podium or yell at the top of your lungs, if you have come with a
poorly organized speech, a muddled mind, and unwillingness to truly share your
views?
above all, the single most important thing
i learnt was that as a public speaker, you need to pay attention, first and
foremost, to the content of your speech. and second, the structure of your
speech: how one idea relates and progresses to another.
only after these come delivery and
non-verbal communication: speed control, platform manner, and so on.
pronunciation is important, yet of greater importance is this: is your language
competent enough to express your ideas exactly the way you intend them to be
understood?
i was informed afterwards that i was chosen
to be the winner for my “appropriately worded speech, excellent presence and
quick-witted response”. in so remarking, the judges clearly showed their
preference: they come to listen for meaningful ideas, not for loose judgments,
nor easy laughters.
some contestants failed to address their
questions head on. some were able to, but did not knowswheresto stop—the
dragging on betrayed their lack of confidence. the root cause was that they did
not listen attentively to the questions. or they were thinking of what they had
prepared.
as i said in my speech, “it is vitally
important that we young people do more serious thinking ... to take them
[issues like globalization] on and give them honest thinking is the first step
to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way”. we need
to respond honestly.
a competition like this draws talented
students from all over the country. and of course, i learnt more things than
just about public speaking. since in the final analysis, public speaking is all
about effective communication. and this goes true for all communications,
whatever their setting.
and the following is the final version of
my speech:
globalization:
opportunities and challenges
for china’s younger generation
thirty years ago, american president
richard nixon made an epoch-making visit to china, a country still isolated at
that time. premier zhou enlai said to him, “your handshake came over the
vastest ocean in the world—twenty-five years of no communication”. thirty years
since, china and america have exchanged many handshakes. the fundamental
implication of this example is that the need to communicate across differences
in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other
nations as well.
as we can see today, environmentalists from
different countries are making joint efforts to address the issue of global
warming, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a
particular region but nonetheless cripple the world economy, and politicians
and diplomats are getting together to discuss the issue of combating terrorism.
peace and prosperity has become a common goal that we are striving for all over
the world. underlying this mighty trend of global communication is the echo of
e. m. forster’s words “only connect!”
with the it revolution, traditional
boundaries of human society fall away. our culture, politics, society and
commerce are being sloshedsintosone large melting pot of humanity. in this interlinked
world, there are no outsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to
impact other parts of the globe. we have begun to realize that a world divided
cannot endure.
china is now actively integratingsintosthe
world. our recent entry to the wto is a good example. for decades, we have
taken pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importance of
participating in and contributing to a broader economic order. from a
precarious role in the world arena to our present wto membership, we have come
a long way.
but what does the way ahead look like? in
some parts of the world people are demonstrating against globalization. are
they justified, then, in criticizing the globalizing world? instead of
narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization
enables the developed nations to swallow the developing nations’ wealth in
debts and interest. globalization, they argue, should be about a common
interest in every other nation’s economic health.
we are reminded by karl marx that capital
goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. this has
become a reality. multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the
largest market, and the most favourable policy. they are often powerful
lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global
market and a devastating presence to local businesses.
for china, still more challenges exist. how
are we going to ensure a smooth transition from the planned economy to a
market-based one? how to construct a legal system that is sound enough and
broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? how to maintain our
cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? and how to define
greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? globalization entails questions
that concern us all.
like many young people my age in china, i
want to see my country get prosperous and enjoy respect in the international
community. but it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough. it is
vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our
mind to bigger issues. there might never be easy answers to those issues such
as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the
first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way.
this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech.

of color in the paper.i experience all tastes of life, sour, sweet, bitter and
hot.
i am from countryside which is far away
from here. sometimes, i miss my parents. but i can’t often see my parents.
lucky for me, i made many friends there.
they often help me and care about me .without their help, i would not be here
today. thanks for my friends here.
my college life is rich and colorful. in my
free time, i can do many more things besides study, such as joining club and
taking part-time job. it not only made my life more colorful, but also helps me
improve my skills. sometimes, i play table tennis with my friends. it is
exciting and relaxing.
the college is like a society. i learn many
things in college. let me learn how to better communicate with people...
a college experience is part of growing up.
i cry, smile, fall in love and get hurt. it makes me become a better person.

sun shengda , my english name is witwicky ,for it is the family name of the
(protagonist) leading actor in the series of transformers, and i do really
enjoy it very much
i come from a beautiful seaside city of
dalian.as you can see, i am a person who is always full of passion, and love
making friendsactually, i have come to the university for more than 2 months; i

mission and responsibility {5minutes}
good afternoon , ladies and gentlemen ,when
i was in primary school ,i was looking forward to being a soldier because i
think they are the best men of the world who protected our country .when i was
in secondary school , my ambition was to study in my ideal university ,and
eventually when i got into my ideal university , my dream was to graduate
successfully, and i can see that the sense of responsibility was getting
stronger and stronger during my growing course.
ladies and gentlemen, as a up-to-date university
student, we know the social responsibility and historical mission of our own.
while talking about them , we have to recall the history of mankind’s development , during which time
,it was easy to be seen that the young were always standing at the edge of
storm, they are the most important power to drive the wheel of history to move
. marx has ever pointed out that it is just the require of history of what you
need and its relationship connected with the truth , it is also the require of
the country, the require to development .bill gates has ever said “talent is
the most expensive resource in the 21st century” ,so , we, the university
students stand for our future .how far a country could go depends on the value
of the country’s youth.
and hello again ,in this age of
international situation , when our country isn’t very strong , when our weapons are not very sharp, we know what we
are facing ,we know what may be changed in the future ,so that we will do work
hard to promote the development of our country.
actually ,ladies and gentlemen,one country
consists of many, many families ,we can’t share too much love with our country but our own families, we
should have a nice family first ,and then a greatful city, a wonder province
,so that a strong country ,even thenice world ,this is our mission .so ,for our
future , please study and
be patient , doing stuff from the thinnest
to the hardest .
now that i am a university student, my goal
is to graduate with excellences, but at the same time ,i have a dream deeply
rooted in our future, one day people in the areas of china would sit with their
families to have dinner happily and enjoy every moment ,one day ,people from
the big cities would be willing to share what they have with those from the
poor villages, and those from poor villages will eventually be able to make
their own happy living themselves, one day ,different cultures in this age of
globalization will coexist with tolerance and the unfriendly confrontations
among them will be elminated ,one day china will be the strongest ofthe world
,and one day i go abroad ,i can tell others proudly, i am a chinese man .
thank you very much.

i’m angela zhang from class 4
grade 8. today, my topic is, “the shanghai world expo”.
first, i’ll say something about
world expo history. as we know, the very first world expo, the great exhibition
of 1851, took place in the crystal palace in london. uk. ever since then, the
goals of world expos have been both high-minded as well as commercial. visitors
are able to explore the world outside of their everyday experience―outside
cultures, new scientific advancements, and new inventions. world expos have
excited and inspired more and more people in the world.
on december3, xx, the bureau of
international expositions (or call it bie) announced that shanghai will host
expoxx. the bie had received bids from five cities to host expoxx. among the 5
nice cities, the bie chose shanghai at last! it’s really an exciting
news for not only shanghainese, but also all of chinese people. here are some
details about it.
look at this profile carefully. the title
is “the xx world exposition ,shanghai, china ”. this is the
logo.
and the theme is “better city.,
better life”.ok, let’s guess who is the image
representative? yeah, you’re right, yao ming!
shanghai expo is the first comprehensive
world expo held in a developing country. and it is also the first one that
takes “the city” as its theme, hoping that it can push
forward the city development and help bring about a better urban living environment,
just like the theme: better city, better life.
i think, as a
student in shanghai, we should learn to be a gentle person and keep good
manners from now on. and try to practice english more in order to communicate
with foreigners fluently in the near future. because, we’re a part of
shanghai.
thank you .

barack obama’s victory speech:
change has come to america
if there is anyone out there who still
doubts that america is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders
if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the
power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.
it’s the answer told by lines
that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never
seen, by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the first time
in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different, that
their voices could be that difference.
it’s the answer spoken by young
and old, rich and poor, democrat and republican, black, white, hispanic, asian,
native american, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled. americans who sent a
message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals
or a collection of red states and blue states.
we are, and always will be, the united
states of america.
it’s the answer that led those
who’ve been told for so long by so many to be cynical and fearful and
doubtful about what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and
bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.
it’s been a long time coming, but
tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining
moment change has come to america.
a little bit earlier this evening, i
received an extraordinarily gracious call from sen. mccain.
sen. mccain fought long and hard in this
campaign. and he’s fought even longer and harder for the country that
he loves. he has endured sacrifices for america that most of us cannot begin to
imagine. we are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless
leader.
i congratulate him; i congratulate gov. palin
for all that they’ve achieved. and i look forward to working with
them to renew this nation’s promise in the months ahead.
i want to thank my partner in this journey,
a man who campaigned from his heart, and spoke for the men and women he grew up
with on the streets of scranton and rode with on the train home to delaware, the
vice president-elect of the united states, joe biden.
and i would not be standing here tonight
without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years the rock
of our family, the love of my life, the nation’s next first lady
michelle obama.
sasha and malia i love you both more than
you can imagine. and you have earned the new puppy that’s coming with
us to the new white house.
and while she’s no longer with
us, i know my grandmother’s watching, along with the family that made
me who i am. i miss them tonight. i know that my debt to them is beyond
measure.
to my sister maya, my sister alma, all my
other brothers and sisters, thank you so much for all the support that
you’ve given me. i am grateful to them.
to those who would tear this world down –
we will defeat you. to those who seek peace and security – we support you. and
to all those who have wondered if america’s beacon still burns as bright – tonight we proved once more that
the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the
scale of our wealth, but from the
enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.
for that is the true genius of america –
that america can change. our union can be perfected. and what we have already
achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.
this election had many firsts and many
stories that will be told for generations. but one that’s on my mind tonight is about a
woman who cast her ballot in atlanta. she’s a lot like the millions of others who stood in line to make their
voice heard in this election except for one thing – ann nixon cooper is 106
years old.
she was born just a generation past
slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when
someone like her
couldn’t vote for two reasons – because she was a woman and because of the
colour of her skin.
and tonight, i think about all that she’s seen throughout her
century in america – the heartache and the
hope; the struggle and the progress; the times we were told that we can’t, and the people who pressed on with that american creed: yes we can.
at a time when women’s voices were silenced and their
hopes
dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the
ballot. yes we can.
when there was despair in the dust bowl and
depression across the land, she saw a nation conquer fear itself with a new deal, new jobs and a new sense of common
purpose. yes we can.
when the bombs fell on our harbour and
tyranny threatened the
world, she was there to witness a generation rise to greatness and a
democracy was saved. yes we can.
she was there for the buses in montgomery, the hoses in
birmingham, a bridge in selma, and a preacher from atlanta who told a people that “we shall
overcome.” yes we can.
a man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in berlin, a world was connected by our own
science and imagination. and this
year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in america, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how america can change.
yes we can.
america, we have come so far. we have seen so much. but there is so much
more to do. so tonight, let us ask ourselves – if our children should live to see the next
century; if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as ann nixon cooper, what change will they see? what
progress will we have made?
this is our chance to answer that call.
this is our moment. this is our time – to put our people back to work and open
doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause
of peace; to reclaim the american dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth –
that out of many, we are one;
that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can’t, we will
respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people:
yes we can. thank you, god bless you, and may god bless the united
states of america.

my fellow citizens:
i stand here today humbled by the task
before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices
borne by our ancestors. i thank president bush for his service to our nation,
as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this
transition.
forty-four americans have now taken the
presidential oath. the words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity
and the still waters of peace. yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst
gathering clouds and raging storms. at these moments, america has carried on
not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because
we the people have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true
to our founding documents.
so it has been. so it must be with this generation of americans.
that we are in the midst of crisis is now
well understood. our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of
violence and hatred. our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and
irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make
hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. homes have been lost; jobs
shed; businesses shuttered. our healthcare is too costly; our schools fail too
many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy
strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.
these are the indicators of crisis, subject
to data and statistics. less measurable but no less profo(敬请期待91考试网更好文章:WWw.91exam.org)und is a sapping of confidence across our land - a
nagging fear that america’s decline is inevitable, and that the next generation
must lower its sights.
today i say to you that the challenges we
face are real. they are serious and they are many. they will not be met easily
or in a short span of time. but know this, america - they will be met.
on this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity
of purpose over conflict and discord.
on this day, we come to proclaim an end to
the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out
dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.
we remain a young nation, but in the words
of scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. the time has come
to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward
that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation:
the god-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a
chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.
in reaffirming the greatness of our nation,
we understand that greatness is never a given. it must be earned. our journey
has never been one of short-cuts or settling for less. it has not been the path
for the faint-hearted - for those who prefer leisure over work, or
seek only the pleasures of riches and fame.
rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things - some
celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labour, who have carried
us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.
for us, they packed up their few worldly
possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life.
for us, they toiled in sweatshops and
settled the west; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth.
for us, they fought and died, in places
like concord and gettysburg; normandy and khe sahn.
time and again these men and women
struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might
live a better life. they saw america as bigger than the sum of our individual
ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.
this is the journey we continue today. we
remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on earth. our workers are no less
productive than when this crisis began. our minds are no less inventive, our
goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or
last year. our capacity remains undiminished. but our time of standing pat, of
protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time
has surely passed. starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves
off, and begin again the work of remaking america.
for everywhere we look, there is work to be
done. the state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will
act - not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. we
will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that
feed our commerce and bind us together. we will restore science to its rightful
place, and wield technology’s wonders to raise healthcare’s quality and lower
its cost. we will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars
and run our factories. and we will transform our schools and colleges and
universities to meet the demands of a new age. all this we can do. and all this
we will do.
now, there are some who question the scale
of our ambitions - who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big
plans. their memories are short. for they have forgotten what this country has
already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to
common purpose, and necessity to courage.
what the cynics fail to understand is that
the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that
have consumed us for so long no longer apply. the question we ask today is not
whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works - whether
it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a
retirement that is dignified. where the answer is yes, we intend to move
forward. where the answer is no, programs will end. and those of us who manage
the public’s dollars will be held to account - to spend wisely, reform bad
habits and do our business in the light of day - because only then can we
restore the vital trust between a people and their government.
nor is the question before us whether the
market is a force for good or ill. its power to generate wealth and expand
freedom is unmatched, but this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful
eye, the market can spin out of control - and that a nation cannot prosper long
when it favours only the prosperous. the success of our economy has always
depended not just on the size of our gross domestic product, but on the reach
f; on our ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart - not out of
charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.
as for our common defence, we reject as false the choice between our
safety and our ideals. our founding fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely
imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a
charter expanded by the blood of generations. those ideals still light the
world, and we will not give them up for expedience’s sake. and so to all other
peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to
the small village where my father was born: know that america is a friend of
each nation and every man, woman and child who seeks a future of peace and
dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more.
recall that earlier generations faced down
fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy
alliances and enduring convictions. they understood that our power alone cannot
protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. instead, they knew that
our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the
justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of
humility and restraint.
we are the keepers of this legacy. guided
by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even
greater effort - even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. we
will begin to responsibly leave iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned
peace in afghanistan. with old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly
to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet. we
will not apologise for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defence, and
for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering
innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken;
you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.
for we know that our patchwork heritage is
a strength, not a weakness. we are a nation of christians and muslims, jews and
hindus - and non-believers. we are shaped by every language and culture, drawn
from every end of this earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of
civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more
united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass;
that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller,
our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that america must play its role in
ushering in a new era of peace.
to the muslim world, we seek a new way
forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. to those leaders around
the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society’s ills on the west -
know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you
destroy. to those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the
silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that
we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.
to the people of poor nations, we pledge to
work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to
nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. and to those nations like ours
that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to
suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world’s resources without
regard to effect. for the world has changed, and we must change with it.
as we consider the road that unfolds before
us, we remember with humble gratitude those brave americans who, at this very
hour, patrol far-off deserts and distant mountains. they have something to tell
us today, just as the fallen heroes who lie in arlington whisper through the
ages. we honour them not only because they are guardians of our liberty, but
because they embody the spirit of service; a willingness to find meaning in
something greater than themselves. and yet, at this moment - a moment that will
define a generation - it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all.
for as much as government can do and must
do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the american people upon
which this nation relies. it is the kindness to take in a stranger when the
levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than
see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. it is the
firefighter’s courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a
parent’s willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate.
our challenges may be new. the instruments
with which we meet them may be new. but those values upon which our success
depends - hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and
curiosity, loyalty and patriotism - these things are old. these things are
true. they have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. what
is demanded then is a return to these truths. what is required of us now is a
new era of responsibility - a recognition, on the part of every american, that
we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not
grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is
nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving
our all to a difficult task.
this is the source of our confidence - the
knowledge that god calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny.
this is the meaning of our liberty and our
creed - why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join
in celebration across this magnificent mall, and why a man whose father less
than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now
stand before you to take a most sacred oath.
so let us mark this day with remembrance,
of who we are and how far we have traveled. in the year of america’s birth, in
the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on
the shores of an icy river. the capital was abandoned. the enemy was advancing.
the snow was stained with blood. at a moment when the outcome of our revolution
was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the
people:
"let it be told to the future
world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could
survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came
forth to meet [it]."
america. in the face of our common dangers,
in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. with hope
and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may
come. let it be said by our children’s children that when we were tested we
refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter;
and with eyes fixed on the horizon and god’s grace upon us, we carried forth
that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.
good morning everybody!it’s my honor to
speak here, and i am very glad to share my topic with you. then today i’d like
to talk something about which is more important, time or money. some people
often say:“money is more important than time.”they think that if people have
money. they can buy clothes, foods, drinks, houses, cars, computers and so o n.
but l don’t think so.
because when time is gone we can’t get it back. but we can keep on making more
money. we can use time to get money. however we can’t use money to get time. lost
wealth maybe replaced by industry. lost knowledge by study. lost health by
temperance or medicine, but lost time is gone for ever. i cannot afford to
waste my time making money. so i think time is more important than money. we
must make full use of our time to study and work. each moment in history is a
fleeting time, precious and unique.
students, do you love life? then do not
squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of. life is long if you know
how to use it. so let’s save our time.
ok,thank you for listening,that’s all
“modesty helps one to make progress, conceit makes one lag behind.”

比如骆驼牌香烟的广告,i walk a mile to catch the camel。
a serious problem has arisen in recent
several years that more and more college students abandon study because of
their taking part-time jobs, so quite a few people are opposed to part-time
jobs. however, taking part-time jobs has at least three benefits for college
studens in my eyes.
first, students can promote their study
through part-time jobs. for instance, if a law student finds a part-time job in
a law firm, his practice will enable him to better understand what he’s learned
from books. what’s more, the part-time job can offer him opportunities to go
beyond what he’s been taught in class, and he’ll learn something that doesn’t
exist in books but in practice.
second, students can also accumulate work experiences
through part-time jobs, which will benefit their future job-hunting. actually,
part-time jobs act as warm-up exercises for students to take full-time jobs
after they graduate, and help them prepare for their future careers. in
addition, as fresh blood in the society, graduated students are often unfavored
in job-hunting markets for lack of practical work experiences. it’s easier to
find jobs for those who have accumulated experiences in part-time jobs.
last but not the least, part-time jobs can partly
relieve students’ financial burden, especially those who are from poor
families. college tution fees have greatly increased in the past ten years due
to the new educational policy. many students from poor families cannot afford
college fees, and our bank system fail to loan college students as effectively
as it does in developed countries, so taking part-time jobs becomes a way for
them to meet their great expenses in campus lives.it’s an undenied fact that
students break the balance between their jobs and studies, especially when they
fall into conflict with each other. but i think students should spend their
spare time taking part-time jobs. only following this principle can they
benefit from their part-time jobs.

change the world? change ourselves
good evening, honorable judges, ladies and
gentlemen.
it’s my great pleasure to stand here to present my speech—change the
world, change ourselves.
it’s noticable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular
day by day, while chinese traditional festivals are being somewhat neglected.
not long before about 10 doctors in beijing university and qinghua unversity
announced that we should reject the invasion of western holidays ,because they regard
western holidays as an challenge against our traditional festivals and culture.
frankly speaking, i don’t quite agree with them.indeed, we
should never neglect or even discard our traditonal festivals as china boasts a
brilliant history and splendid traditions. (examples).but why can’t we absorb the meaningful western
holidays and culture.
there are obvious reasons why some western
holidays are so popular in china. on the one hand, some of the western holidays
which we chinese don’t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as father’s day and april fool’s day etc. on the other hand, the
preva lence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in china.
overwhelmed by such a trend, chinese unconsiciously get involved in western
holidays and culture.
with the further development of the whole
world, the cultural communication between different countries and nations
becomes faster and more and more important. we are indeed from different
nations, but we are the citizens of the same world, so the outstanding culture
of different nations is the commom wealth of everyone on the earth.the only way
for us to protect our traditional culture is to reject the foreign culture? the
answer is definitely no. what we ought to do is to spare no effort to educate chinese
to get to know and treasure our splendid traditions instead of rejecting
foreign culture. only by educating can we set our confidence and belief towards
our culture. only by educating can we preserve and promote the wealth that our
ancesters left for us.
at last i’d like to share a famouse saying of gandhi with all of you ,that

did my best to win, but the fact was that failure was so frequent. i gradually failed
to finish my task and i lose my target. maybe i can have some change but the
most crucial factor is something i don’t know. however, i remember my dream.
i have a dream .i dream that one day i will
become a billionaire and i will have a world supermarket chain. maybe this idea
is so naive that it can never come true, but it’s my dream. sorry, i shouldn’t
be so discouraged. i must believe myself because it’s always my dream. i can’t
give up. now, i have nothing, but i have my hard-working hands and firm belief.
i believe nothing is impossible for me and my boiling blood can create
everything. if no people believe you, you can make it to prove that you are
right. if you think the god haven’t blessed you and there is no truth here, you
can become the god and create the truth.
"my breath swallows the sky and
make the yellow river overflow, my sword is famous in kyushu and it can
collapse the five sacred mountains." at some time in the past i also
had ambitious words and i had some achievements. each achievement results from
my hard work. i always believe that "if you want to have more
achievements than others, you must work harder."
young! fortunately, i am young now. just
due to it, i know that nothing is impossible. i firmly believe that nothing can
stand in my way. if i can’t realize my dream, it result from that i haven’t
work harder enough and i won’t find other excuses.
in some extent, the dream is the hope. if
you can insist on doing something, the victory will come.
just to do that you think is right and
don’t care others’ gossip. forgive everything that is difficult to be forgiven
and the life will be full of laughter.
this is my dream! this is all my words!

ood morning, dear teacher and my friends.
it’s a very intresting topic today.
i think my dad was a hero for me when i was
a young child. we’d go fishing, walks, and other fun things for a kid.
every child has a good and great father,
and so do i. my dad played a very important role in my daily life`````exactly
speaking, in my past 16 years.
my father always stands in the center of my
life, from past
till now and possibly in the future.
my family was rather poor when i was in my
childhood. we didn’t have our own house and had to live in a shabby, small room rented from my father’s
factory. the room was so small that there was little space for people to walk.
i didn’t have my own bed and had to sleep with my parents. this is terrible
both for my parents and me.
but father made this all different!he works very hard on his own
business, now we have our own 2 housese, surly,i have my own room.and he take
our family so much happiness, richer and richer.
when i was little, i did everything with my
dad. you could always find me sitting on his knee or walking and doing
everything with him. every night he would read me a bed time story and make the
voices of each character.
i learnt a lot from my dad(来源好范文网:Www.91exam.org)dy. i learnt to never take things to seriously and
to always smile.
like many other fathers, my dad and i also
has generation gap. he is not good at or even can’t work the computer. so when i sitting at the computer desk,he will
say something like ‘you should pay more attention to your study’, ‘don’t waste time
on the computer games’ , ‘it will be
bad for your eyes’ and so on.
how can i- a computer fan – reduce time on computer? so i continue studying and
playing on it
years pasted, my father is over 45 now. it
is time for me to look after him and i am sure i will do and we will live an
even better life. and i will say,i really love you dad, cause you are the hero
in my mind.
what is nature? it’s everything that exists in the
world independently of people, such as pants and animals, earth and rocks, and
the weather.
now more and more people are focusing on
the nature. it is no doubt that the nature is important to every human being.
no nature, no life. because of the supplies of the nature, we have lived
happily for a long time. and we started to gain every thing available from the
nature. and this lasted so long a time. today, people have discovered that the
nature around is getting worse and worse.
what is threatening the nature? air and
water pollution, overharvesting of plant and animal species, overpopulation and
so on. overpopulation is the biggest source of pollution. let’s take overpopulation as an
example.
what does overpopulation feel like? when we
move slowly through the city in a tazi. when we enter a crowded slum district.
when the temperature is high and when the air is thick with dust and smoke. the
streets are crowded with people. the streets seem alive with people. people
eating. people washing. people talking. people sleeping. people visiting each
other, arguing and screaming. people relieving themselves. people pushing their
hands through the taxi windows, begging. people leading animals. people,
people, people, people. as we drive slowly through the crowd, sounding the taxi’s horn, the dust, heat, noise and
cooking fires made it like a scene from hell! i admit, frightening.
to the nature, overpopulation is a big
problem. more people, more pollution. and the big population is threatening the
nature every second.
the rapid rise in world population is not
creating problems only for the developing countries. the whole world faces the problem
that raw materials are being used up at an increasing rate and food production
can not keep up with the population increase. people in rich countries make the
heaviest demands on the world’s resources, its food, fuel and land, and cause the most pollution.
a baby born in the united states will use in his lifetime 30 times more of the
world’s resources
than a baby born in india. unless all the countries of the world take united
action to deal with the population explosion there will be more and more people
fighting for a share of less and less land, food and fuel, and the future will
bring poverty, misery and war to us all.
for most of the developing countries, it is
a good idea to control the population growth. for example, china has carried
out birth control for years. and this plan has a great effect on the world
population.
if the population continues to increase, if
the air and water continue to be polluted, if we don’t do something to protect
wild-plant and wildlife species will be declining. species and biological
communities have difficulty adapting to change. economic opportunities and the
quality of life of future generations are also put at risk. by protecting
nature, we protect ourselves.
let’s unite together, hand in hand we stand all across the land.
we can make this world in which to live.
hand in hand. control the population growth. take good care of our nature.

“low-carbon” is one of
the most popular buzz-words in this year. not only china but all countries
focus on the topic of “low-carbon”.
here, i’d like to share my own
experience abroad with you. several years ago, i was very lucky to have an
opportunity to live in the australia about half a month. during that time, not
only did i enjoy the beautiful natural scenery there, but also i appreciated
the people’s active way of protecting their environment. now,
whenever the environment protection is mentioned, the beautiful scenery of
australia will arise in my mind, white clouds flying across the blue sky, green
grassplot sprinkled with colorful flowers and lovely squirrels playing happily
among the trees.
as a citizen of china, if everyone can
actively protect the environment in our daily life and if we would like to
reduce our carbon footprint, the scenery of blue sky, green grass and lovely
animals in australia will appear in china, even in hefei.
but i totally support the view, that is to
say, emotion without action is irrelevant! do you unplug electronics after you
use them? do you switch off everything before you go to sleep? do you adjust
your tv screen a bit dimmer to save energy? do you re-use water for different
activities around the house? each of these seemingly insignificant adjustments
in your daily life can make a difference in saving the environment of tomorrow.
we all know that nothing is more comfortable
than sitting in the warmth of a hearted car while it’s snowing and
hailing outside in the freezing cold…but with global warming and
even global cooling becoming more pressing by the day, not to mention your own
health, take a walk ,ride a bike ,reduce your carbon footprint on the
environment .it is said that tiny streams can be combined into a vast ocean,
small trees can be an immense forest, and every little makes a mickle.
“low-carbon” is not
just a buzz-word but a goal that people from all over the world wanna get. so,
reduce carbon footprint! reduce damage! save energy! save the world!

one earth
we have only one earth. but now,the
environment becomes worse and worse.
as you know, there’s no enough clean water
for people. so many of them lose their lives because of water. in a lot of
countries, people have to cut trees for
living. so there’s nothing to keep water from running away. also we have
polluted the
land, the river and the air. so we have to
face more and more floods and droughts .
it’s time that we must do something useful
to protect our environment. we can plant trees and take good care of them. we
can
save the water and ask our parents to do
so. we can’t throw any litter onto the ground and we should collect them for
recycling.
if we take good care of our earth today,it
will be more beautiful tomorrow
