Academic Areas

XiamenUniversity is currently recruitingtalents who have distinguished themselves ina variety of academic disciplinesincluding: the humanities and social sciences,the natural sciences,engineering and high-technology, medicine and otheremergingresearch-orientated areas and multidisciplinary fields.

Positions Available

Fourtypes of professorships are currentlyavailable: distinguished professorships,full professorships, associateprofessorships, and assistant professorships.

A) Distinguished Professorships

XiamenUniversity is recruitingoutstanding scholars and leading talents withinternational influence andacademic reputation. Several types of distinguishedprofessorships areavailable through both national and provincial-levelprograms. The nationalgovernment’s “1000 Talents Plan” includes three types ofprograms: The InnovativeTalent Program, the Foreign Expert Recruitment Program,and the 1000 YoungTalents Program. The Yangtze River Scholar Program is aprogram under theNational Ministry of Education and the Min River ScholarProgram is a programunder Provincial Education Department. Successfulcandidates of “1000 YoungTalent Program” may be granted a full professorship oran associateprofessorship as well, depending on the candidate’s qualifications.

Essential Qualifications

1)Applicants for a distinguished professorshipunder the Innovative Talent Programand the Foreign Expert Recruitment Programmust:

a) Possess a doctoraldegree in a relevantfield of study;

b) Be a maximumof 55 years of age;

c) Hold a fullprofessorship or its equivalent in arenowned overseas university or otherresearch institution;

d) Meet allother requirements as may be stipulated bynational or provincial governmentrules and regulations.

2)Applicants for a distinguishedprofessorship under the Yangtze River ScholarProgram, the Min River ScholarProgram and Xiamen University Program must:

a) Possess adoctoral degree in a relevantfield of study;

b) Hold anassociate professorship or its equivalent ina renowned overseas university orother research institution, or a fullprofessorship in a renowned university orother research institution in China;

c) Be a maximumof 45 years of age for positions in thenatural sciences and engineering andtechnology, or a maximum of 50 years of agefor positions in the humanities andsocial sciences (NOTE: Under certaincircumstances applicants to the YangtzeRiver Scholar Program may be as old as55 years of age);

d) Meet allother requirements as may be stipulated bynational or provincial governmentrules and regulations.

3)Applicants for adistinguished professorship/full professorship/associate professorshipunderthe 1000 Young Talents Plan must:

a) Holdoutstanding qualifications limited to thenatural sciences, engineering,technology or medicine;

b) Be a maximum of 40 years of age and own excellentoverseasresearch experience;

c) Meet allother requirements as may be stipulated bynational or provincial governmentrules and regulations;

d) Successfulcandidates will enjoy R&D fundingsupported by the national government rangingfrom 1 to 3 million yuan RMB,similar quantity of preparatory R&D fundingsupported by the university andgovernment allowances totaling 875,000 yuan RMB.

B) Full Professorships

Essential Qualifications

1)Applicants must possess a doctoraldegree or the highest degree awarded in arelevant discipline;

2)Applicants must be 45 years old oryounger.

C) Associate Professorships

Essential Qualifications

1)Applicants must possess a doctoraldegree or the highest degree awarded in arelevant discipline;

2)Applica nts must be 40 years old oryounger.

D) Assistant Professorships

1.Essential Qualifications

1)Applicants must possess a doctoraldegree or hold a post-doctoral position in arenowned overseas or domesticuniversity or other research institution andshould fulfill other requirementsfor assistant professorship;

2)Applicants must be 35 years old oryounger.

2.Doctoral graduates as of the currentacademic year for assistant professorshipsmay be accepted as Research-orientedAssistant Pofessors who are entitled to thesalary and benefits of assistantprofessors (including housing or housingallowances). Research-oriented AssistantProfessors will be required to joinrelevant post-doctoral institutes andconduct scientific research programs fortwo years, during which time teachingis not compulsory. Applicants for certaindisciplines who are accepted directlyas Assistant Professors should take theresponsibilities of instruction andresearch as stipulated by the university.
