Westlake University, approved by the Ministry of Education, is a new type of research un iversity in China. Supported by philanthropists and the Chinese government, Westlake University aims to become a world-class, international university over the next ten years. At present, Westlake students pursue doctoral degrees in one of three schools (Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering).

The recently established Westlake Language Center provides language and communication  It will develop writing,?support to students, faculty, and staff. presentation, and other communication skills through workshops, tutoring, consultations, criticism, and other programming. The Center will also provide copywriting, editing, and proofreading services to ensure Westlake documents, websites, and publications are of the highest ?quality.

Westlake University seeks a full-time, experienced scientific writer/editor with superb English language ability to assist faculty, staff, and students in developing their English communication skills.

Position: Academic Writing Consultant?

Job Responsibilities:

-Develop and lead workshops for university faculty, researchers, students, and staff on writing and communication.

-Editing and proofreading of English language documents, especially academic manuscripts destined for publication.

-Tutoring/consulting on English communication for university faculty and administrative staff.

-Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

-Demonstrated competence and experience in English scientific/technical writing and editing,

-Two or more years’ experience as an English language communication professional.

- MA or higher degree in English, Communication, Journalism, or closely related field.

-Native or near-native level English fluency.

Desired:

-Familiarity with academic manuscript preparation and publishing.

-Ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese.

-Experience with international higher education institutions (e.g., teaching English or communication, Chinese/English translation).

-Undergraduate degree in science, engineering, or related technical field.
