To whom it may concern:
My name is Janet Perez, and I ordered some products from your online shop. I received
the products and invoice, but there are some mistakes with my order.
The invoice states that I ordered two curtains, but in fact, I only ordered and
received one. I would like to make sure that I am refunded the extra money I paid
for the extra curtain.
It is also written on the invoice that I ordered a small rug. I never ordered the
rug, but I received it anyway. Please give me instructions on how I can return it
to you. I would like my money back for this item, too.
Also, even though the price of one set of bed sheets is listed as $19.99 on your
web site, I was charged $29.99. This is not a small jump in price, Could you tell
me the reason for it? I would like to be paid back the difference.

Questions 14-18 refer to the following invoice and letter.
Bacteria are extremely small living things. While we measure our own sizes in inches or centimeters,
bacterial size is measured in microns. One micron is a thousandth of a millimeter; a pinhead is about a
millimeter across. Rod-shaped bacteria are usually two to four microns long, while rounded ones are generally
one micron in diameter. Thus, if you enlarged a rounded bacterium a thousand times, it would be just about
the size of a pinhead. An adult human magnified by the same amount would be over a mile (1.6 kilometers)
tall.
Even with an ordinary microscope, you must look closely to see bacteria. Using a magnification of 100
times, one finds that bacteria are barely visible as tiny rods or dots. One cannot make out anything of
their structure. Using special stains, one can see that some bacteria have attached to them wavy-looking
"hairs" called flagella (鞭毛) Others have only one flagellum. The flagella rotate, pushing the bacteria
through the water. Many bacteria lack flagella and cannot move about by their own power, while others can
glide along over surfaces by some little-understood mechanism.
From the bacterial point of view, the world is a very different place from what it is to humans. To
a bacterium, water is as thick as molasses (糖浆) is to us. Bacteria are so small that they are influenced
by the movements of the chemical molecules (分子) around them. Bocteria under the microscope, ever those
with no flagella, often bounce about in the water. This is because they collide with the water molecules
and are pushed this way and that. Molecules move so rapidly that within a tenth of a secondthe molecules
around a bacterium havc all been replaced by new ones. Even bacteria without flagella are thus constantly
exposed to a changing environment.
14.Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A) Round bacteria are generally smaller than rod-shaped ones.
B) If we enlarged a rod-shaped bacterium a thousand times, it would still be smaller than
a pinhead.
C) If one used a microscope with a magnification of 100 times, he can see the structure of a bacterium
19
clearly.
B) Water molecules move so quickly that a bacterium can not move in the water.
15.According to the passage, using a magnification of 100 times, one who examines bacteria with an ordinary
microscope will only see __________ .
A) small round marks B) stains
C) wavy-looking hairs D) detailed structures
16.The environment around bacteria is always changing because .
A) molecules around bacteria move very fast
B) the water is as thick as molecules
C) there is a large number of molecules around bacteria
D) new bacteria always replace the old ones
17.The relationship between a bacterium and its flagella is most similar to which of the following?
A) A flag attached to a stick
B) A cowboy on the cow’s back
C) A door closed by a naughty boy
D) A boat pushed by the motor
18.The author compares water to molasses in order to show _________ .
